Raseborg Castle Ruins

Discover the unique medieval castle ruins in Snappertuna, dating back to the late 14th century and the namesake of the city of Raseborg! Actor Dan Idman offers guided tours of the castle while in character as Daniel Skrivare. These public tours take place during the summer months.

During the approximately one-hour tour, you’ll learn about kings, pirates, romance, and daily life at the castle. Reserve your ticket here. Tours are in both Finnish, Swedish and English. Admission is €13 for adults and €5 for children. Group bookings are possible all year round.

Note: The castle includes steep stairs and uneven surfaces that may limit accessibility. With assistance, entry to the courtyard is possible. 

Svartå Manor

Located in the historic ironworks area, Svartå Manor is one of Finland’s most treasured manors and a nationally significant cultural heritage site. Built in the late 1700s, the building is surrounded by a more than 100-year-old English-style park. 

The only way to access the manor is through public or private guided tours. Learn about the grandeur and tragedies of the Linder family, secrets of the past, and the history behind the paintings and furniture. The manor is said to be haunted, so you may also hear mysterious ghost stories and exciting anecdotes. 

Public tours are available in July and August on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends—and continue on weekends throughout the year. Tours last 45 minutes. Tickets can be purchased on-site, though advance booking is recommended. On-site price is €18 for adults; online booking is €15 (+ booking fee). Children under 18 join for free. 
Public tours are only in Finnish. For a Swedish tour, you’ll need to book a private guide. Tours in English, German, French, and Russian are also available upon request. Read more and secure your spot here

Fiskars Ironworks Village

Fiskars Village in Raseborg offers various tours showcasing the area and its history. Founded in 1649, the village was a pioneer in Finnish industry and is today a hub of culture, history, art, creativity, and culinary experiences. 

Join a 1-hour tour, either on foot or by your group’s own bus, and learn about the main sights as well as the artisans, designers, and artists who live and work in Fiskars today. Tours are available in Swedish, Finnish, and English. The cost is €120/group (Mon–Sat) and €180/group (Sundays and holidays). 

For a more in-depth experience, join a 90–120-minute tour that includes visits to shops and workshops, offering insight into the daily life and work of local artisans. This tour costs €180/group (Mon–Sat) and €270 (Sundays and holidays).

Helene Schjerfbeck

Helene Schjerfbeck lived in Ekenäs from 1925 to 1941, and the town and surrounding area were highly significant to her. Many of her landscapes were painted in what is now Raseborg, and her roots trace back to Ekenäs on both sides of her family. 

In Ekenäs, you can join dramatized walking tours guided by Helene herself, who tells stories about her life and important episodes in the town’s history from its founding through the 1940s. She’ll show you the parks and buildings that inspired her work and speak of the friends who modeled for her portraits.

Villa Skeppet

Interested in architecture? Villa Skeppet, originally known as Villa Schildt but renamed by locals thanks to its ship-like appearance, was designed by Alvar Aalto for his friends Göran and Christine Schildt. The architecture and interior design reflect the interests shared by Aalto and Schildt—sailing and Mediterranean cultures. 

A guided tour is the only way to visit inside the building. Public tours last 30–40 minutes and are held in English unless otherwise arranged. Regular admission is €22/person; €16 for pensioners, students, and unemployed individuals. Private group tours are also available starting at €100.

Ekenäs Archipelago

The Ekenäs Archipelago National Park consists of over 1,300 islands and stretches from the inner archipelago out to the open sea. The larger islands in the inner archipelago feature wilderness lakes, lush forests, and rocky shores. In the southern parts of the park, you might even spot grey seals and ringed seals. 

If you want to explore the archipelago but don’t have a boat, guided boat tours are available for up to five people. The tours last 3–6 hours and let you experience all that the archipelago has to offer. The route and timing may vary depending on weather conditions. The price is €80/hour with a minimum duration of 3 hours (€240 total). Tours are offered in Finnish and English.

Malmbacka

Did you know that Finland’s only village where you can learn about traditional charcoal-making in kilns is located in Raseborg? In Malmbacka, Snappertuna, there are three old charcoal kiln sites that tell the story of past times when charcoal was produced here in the 1600s for ironworks in Western Uusimaa. 

Through a role-play guided tour, you’ll travel back to the 17th century and learn how charcoal-making began in the region. You’ll see the old kiln sites, charcoal-maker buildings, and exhibits with images and texts. Tours last 1–2 hours and are available in Finnish and Swedish. Admission is €5/person, and for €20 you can also enjoy a period-appropriate meal.

Raseborgs Sommarteater

Raseborgs Sommarteater (Raseborg Summer Theatre) is the largest summer theatre in Swedish-speaking Finland, with over 1,000 permanent seats. During the summer of 2025, Raseborg Summer Theatre will present the high-energy musical We Will Rock You, based on the music of the legendary rock band Queen and the script by comedian and author Ben Elton.

The story takes place in a future world where a global corporation controls the world and all our actions—what we consume, think, and dream about. The musical is filled with youthful energy and is about being yourself, dreaming, freedom, and creativity.

Don’t miss this summer’s musical extravaganza that is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, warm your heart, and offer a magical view next to the castle ruins in Snappertuna! Queen’s timeless songs will surely get both your heart and your feet keeping the beat.

Summer Theatre at Svartå Manor

This year, theatre performances, concerts, and stand-up shows will take over the summer stage next to the beautiful castle park at Svartå Manor. This summer’s hysterically funny comedy performance is called Hulvaton elokuvan historia (“The Hilarious History of Film”) and is written by stand-up comedian Mika Eirtovaara. Here you can watch the greatest and most famous works in film history come to life on stage, performed by two brilliant actors.

The summer theatre seats around 450 people and is covered by roof—so you can always count on a comfortable, weatherproof theatre experience. The play will be performed between June 28th and August 3rd. Buy tickets and read more about this summer’s performance here.

Summer Theatre in Tenala

This summer’s performance by SKOTT r.f. at Museigården in Tenala offers a laughter-filled experience for the whole family. The newly written play SPEKTAKLET is a colorful mix of classic fairy tales, humor, and music. Here you’ll encounter completely new, hilarious, and slightly crazy interpretations of well-known stories.

Fall in love with the Raseborg’s beautiful nature, rich history, and vast area. In this article, you will find tips on how to plan your trip, bike rental, and other helpful information to help make your trip to Raseborg by bike unforgettable. 

Pick your Path! 

Whether you’re looking for a short daytrip or a longer adventure, there’s a route for you in Raseborg. Here you will find some inspiration for planning your trip, but all bicycle routes can be found here. Check out the service Bikeland, where you can find both local and national routes.  

Daytrips or Shorter Adventures 

Railbank Route runs from Karis to Billnäs, all the way to Fiskars through Åminnefors. This nature lovers’ path is 12 km long. Looking for something longer? Try the Ironworks Village Route, that passes through six historical Ironworks in the Raseborg area on its 79 km long route. Only have an afternoon? Try the short bike- and hiking friendly Culture Route from Pumpviken in Karis to Billnäs Ironworks.  

Historical Routes 

For the historically inclined, Raseborg offers much to discover on a bike. Try the 46km long Frontline route, which takes you through many historically significant war locations. If you’re more interested in medieval times, try the Castle route. You will discover many ruins of castles that tell the story of Raseborg’s rich medieval culture.  

Mountain Biking 

Fiskars Village Trail Center offers great mountain biking routes, enjoy the  restaurants and cafés in Fiskars Village while you’re there.  

The Coastal Route and Longer Adventures 

If you love the seaside and you’re looking for a longer adventure, check out the Coastal route that takes you through Raseborg to the neighboring cities of Hangö, Kimitoön and Salo. Read more about the Coastal route here.  

Additionally, the European cycle route EuroVelo 10—also known as the Baltic Sea Cycle Route—passes through Raseborg, continuing along the Baltic Sea and further into continental Europe. 

Practical Information for Cyclists 

Raseborg provides a range of practical amenities for cyclists. The city has improved its cycling infrastructure with increased signs and numerous bicycle parking areas throughout the region. 

In Predium, Sommaröstrand and Stallörsparken in Ekenäs, there is even a battery charging station for e-bikes, where you can safely charge your battery in a secure storage locker. 

Combine your cycling trip with a visit to one of Raseborgs many beautiful beaches, enjoy delicious local food at one of our restaurants, or why not stay the night in one of our many welcoming accommodations?  

Welcome Cyclist-initiative 

In Raseborg, you’ll find a wide range of bicycle-friendly businesses that are part of Bikeland’s “Welcome Cyclist” initiative. Through Bikeland’s route services, you can easily discover both cycling routes and businesses that warmly welcome cyclists. Participating businesses offer essential amenities for cyclists, such as bicycle pumps, secure storage, and local route information, helping to make your journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible. 

No bicycle? No problem!  

If you didn’t bring a bike with you, don’t worry – in Raseborg you can find lots of options. During summer, the city provides its own city bikes, ideal for exploring the different villages and neighborhoods. Whether you enjoy outdoors or indoors, the autumn holidays in Raseborg offer something for everyone. The diverse range of nature trails invites you to go and discover the nature and its cones, rocks and trees. Discover what nature has to offer or go on a geocaching or Vevi adventure. Explore the city’s exciting history in the old iron works or Ekenäs old town. Or enjoy a cozy fairy tale in one of the city’s six libraries.

Here are three reasons to visit Raseborg during the autumn holidays.

1. A wide range of activities

As the largest city in Uusimaa province, by area, Raseborg is both diverse and rich in activities. Here you can find for example a wide range of nature trails with the mix of nature, culture and history. Pack a tasty snack and enjoy a break in the middle of nature. In Västerby outdoor recreation area, Kopparö, Gumnäs as well as at some other outdoor destinations, there is the possibility of a barbecue area.

Do not forget geocaching either – Raseborg is an excellent place for this and the search for hiding places makes wandering in nature guaranteed to be more exciting.

Curious to see the best view of Ekenäs? Pick up the key to the old water tower from the Raseborg Museum, climb 164 steps and admire the magical view!

If you enjoy riding a bike, there are several nice bike routes that takes you between villages and historical sites. For the more adventurous, Fiskars Village offers excellent mountain bike routes in beautiful surroundings. The city bikes are also available until the end of the month.

For the smaller ones in the family, there is a wide range of different playgrounds, so go and discover the city’s 36 playgrounds. Among the children’s favourites are Lejonparken in Ekenäs, Fiskars playground and the new adventure course at Pumpviken in Karis.

When the evening darkness falls and the autumn chill sets in, it’s the perfect time to move your activities indoors. Raseborg has a wide range of activities to choose from – for example, you can visit the public swimming pool, watch a film at one of the two cinemas, try bowling or play padel. Aktia ice hall in Karis also organises public ice skating on Fridays and Saturdays from 4th October!

The public pool in Ekenäs offers Friday Fun on Fridays for children who can swim, from 5 PM to 7 PM. During two hours, children can use the pool’s water toys and other equipment in lanes 4-6. On Fridays from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the swimming pool has a Relax session, which means dimmed lighting, a calm atmosphere, and soothing music.

2. Exciting history

Although the city of Raseborg is only 15 years old, its districts and villages hold a much older history than that. In the old iron works in Svartå, Billnäs and Fiskars, you can learn more about the history behind the old iron mills. In order for the old iron mills to once function, coal was produced in the forests of Snappertuna. In the coal village of Malmbacka, you can learn about the history behind coal production.

In the old town of Ekenäs, you can walk along the narrow streets, admire the old wooden houses and imagine how the life in the city used to be. You get clues from the street names in the old town, which reveals how the townspeople made their living. Here, the streets have existed in the same place since the 16th century. The oldest remaining houses are from the 18th–19th centuries.

3. Diverse cultural life and locally produced delicacies

Let your imagination and creativity flow during the autumn holidays! Try glassblowing in Fiskars or book a chocolate class in Billnäs. Or immerse yourself in the world of fairy tales in one of the city’s six libraries. The city’s library offers books in at least 28 different languages. On Tuesday 15 October, the reading dogs Scooby and Atlas will visit the libraries in Karis and Ekenäs!

Combine history and culture and visit interesting museums. For several of the city’s museums, the Museum Card serves as payment. At Raseborg Museum, you can take part in Helene Schjerfbeck guided tours in Swedish or Finnish. Admission to Fiskars Museum is free during 16th-18th October, where you can solve fun picture puzzles.

Treat yourself with something delicious and fill your stomach with local delicacies! Visit cozy cafes, versatile restaurants and traditional markets during your visit. In Raseborg there is also a dense network of local food lovers, producers and organic farms.
