An Eventful Autumn

After a summer full of events, there is still plenty of energy left for an eventful autumn in Raseborg. Raseborg hosts a large number of autumn events, from vibrant music festivals to colorful food markets.

This year, we are delighted to welcome back the traditional Ekenäs Autumn Fair on 18–19 September! With hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors, the fair offers something for everyone. The event takes place at the market square in Ekenäs, Flemingsgatan 19 during Thursday at 12–21 and Friday at 12–20. Come and enjoy the lively atmosphere, discover a wide variety of products, and experience the joy of tradition. As always, the fairground will be there to provide fun and entertainment for the whole family! The fairground opens on Thursday from 12-20 and on Friday from 12-21.

After a day full of fun activities, you can curl up in the comfy chairs of one of our two retro style cinemas, Bio Forum in Ekenäs or Bio Pallas in Karis.

Harvest Season with Local Delicacies

Did you know Raseborg is a real paradise for lovers of locally produced food? Our city is righteously 
proud of our large number of fresh and unique local food products and the many skillful entrepreneurs behind them. For a foodie the best time to travel to Raseborg is undoubtedly autumn, when our markets are brimming with wonderful harvest products.  

If the timetables of the local market events do not match with your schedule, you can always order products from the local REKO food Facebook groups of either Karis or Ekenäs . The order is made in beforehand on Facebook, and you can pick your purchase from the joint sharing event on Fridays. Handy, don’t you think? By this you will know whose products you are buying and where your money is going, while you simultaneously get to meet the producers! 

Additionally, the Slow Food Festival is arranged for the 14th time this year, and for the first time the event will be held in Billnäs Village. Here you will have the opportunity to discover, taste, and enjoy good, clean, and fairly produced local food!

Raseborg has a broad network of farmers, producers of local food and other entrepreneurs that make unique artisan products. In our region we have, for example, several bakeries, breweries, a distillery, a cheese factory, a dairy and a fermentary. Slow Food Västnyland association has gathered a map on their website of all the places that sell locally produced food in our region.

Although Raseborg’s summer restaurants have started to drift into their winter slumber, a rich variety of cozy restaurants and cafés remain open year-round, ready to welcome you with warmth. Discover them here.

Sports and Outdoor Activities

Is there a better combination than outdoor sports and the refreshing autumn air? In Raseborg, the nature is always just around the corner and in autumn the nature is more beautiful than ever. You can take a walk in old forests, find your way to the shore of a beautiful lake, and fall in love with the calming nature of the archipelago. On top of the wonderful views, many of the nature trails also have historical value. 

For hiking enthusiasts, Västerby Outdoor Recreation Centre is a great option. In the area we recommend hiking around the popular Enchanted Forest Path, that offers both old forests and beautiful lake views. Or why not take a ferry trip to admire the wonderful archipelago scenery of Kopparö nature trail on Skåldö? Even in the historical ironworks villages of Billnäs and Fiskars you can hike in the beautiful, historically interesting trails. You can check out all our region’s nature trails  here

For people that feel at home in the saddle of a bike and aren’t afraid of challenges, the mountain biking routes of Fiskars Village Trail Center are the best pick. The center has several routes of different degrees of difficulty, all in magnificent scenery. While biking you get to enjoy the fresh fall air and afterwards you can satisfy your hungry stomach in one of the popular restaurants of Fiskars.

Please note that access to Ramsholmen and Högholmen in Ekenäs is temporarily closed from August 18th to November 30th 2025 due to construction work on the bridge leading to Ramsholmen.

The opportunities for outdoor activities and nature experiences don’t end here. How about going for a horse-riding trip or checking out one of our many disc golf or padel courses? Whether you enjoy outdoors or indoors, the autumn holidays in Raseborg offer something for everyone. The diverse range of nature trails invites you to go and discover the nature and its cones, rocks and trees. Discover what nature has to offer or go on a geocaching or Vevi adventure. Explore the city’s exciting history in the old iron works or Ekenäs old town. Or enjoy a cozy fairy tale in one of the city’s six libraries.

Here are three reasons to visit Raseborg during the autumn holidays.

1. A wide range of activities

As the largest city in Uusimaa province, by area, Raseborg is both diverse and rich in activities. Here you can find for example a wide range of nature trails with the mix of nature, culture and history. Pack a tasty snack and enjoy a break in the middle of nature. In Västerby outdoor recreation area, Kopparö, Gumnäs as well as at some other outdoor destinations, there is the possibility of a barbecue area.

Do not forget geocaching either – Raseborg is an excellent place for this and the search for hiding places makes wandering in nature guaranteed to be more exciting.

Curious to see the best view of Ekenäs? Pick up the key to the old water tower from the Raseborg Museum, climb 164 steps and admire the magical view!

If you enjoy riding a bike, there are several nice bike routes that takes you between villages and historical sites. For the more adventurous, Fiskars Village offers excellent mountain bike routes in beautiful surroundings. The city bikes are also available until the end of the month.

For the smaller ones in the family, there is a wide range of different playgrounds, so go and discover the city’s 36 playgrounds. Among the children’s favourites are Lejonparken in Ekenäs, Fiskars playground and the new adventure course at Pumpviken in Karis.

When the evening darkness falls and the autumn chill sets in, it’s the perfect time to move your activities indoors. Raseborg has a wide range of activities to choose from – for example, you can visit the public swimming pool, watch a film at one of the two cinemas, try bowling or play padel. Aktia ice hall in Karis also organises public ice skating on Fridays and Saturdays from 4th October!

The public pool in Ekenäs offers Friday Fun on Fridays for children who can swim, from 5 PM to 7 PM. During two hours, children can use the pool’s water toys and other equipment in lanes 4-6. On Fridays from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM, the swimming pool has a Relax session, which means dimmed lighting, a calm atmosphere, and soothing music.

2. Exciting history

Although the city of Raseborg is only 15 years old, its districts and villages hold a much older history than that. In the old iron works in Svartå, Billnäs and Fiskars, you can learn more about the history behind the old iron mills. In order for the old iron mills to once function, coal was produced in the forests of Snappertuna. In the coal village of Malmbacka, you can learn about the history behind coal production.

In the old town of Ekenäs, you can walk along the narrow streets, admire the old wooden houses and imagine how the life in the city used to be. You get clues from the street names in the old town, which reveals how the townspeople made their living. Here, the streets have existed in the same place since the 16th century. The oldest remaining houses are from the 18th–19th centuries.

3. Diverse cultural life and locally produced delicacies

Let your imagination and creativity flow during the autumn holidays! Try glassblowing in Fiskars or book a chocolate class in Billnäs. Or immerse yourself in the world of fairy tales in one of the city’s six libraries. The city’s library offers books in at least 28 different languages. On Tuesday 15 October, the reading dogs Scooby and Atlas will visit the libraries in Karis and Ekenäs!

Combine history and culture and visit interesting museums. For several of the city’s museums, the Museum Card serves as payment. At Raseborg Museum, you can take part in Helene Schjerfbeck guided tours in Swedish or Finnish. Admission to Fiskars Museum is free during 16th-18th October, where you can solve fun picture puzzles.

Treat yourself with something delicious and fill your stomach with local delicacies! Visit cozy cafes, versatile restaurants and traditional markets during your visit. In Raseborg there is also a dense network of local food lovers, producers and organic farms.
