Top 5 tips for a family with children

1. Children’s events

Raseborg hosts a wide range of events for children and young people throughout the year. You can find current events for children in our events calendar. There are also many educational activities on offer. Try a DIY workshop at the Fiskars Museum or go on a medieval trip to the ruins of Raseborg’s Castle. In Fiskars, a handicraftsman will be challenged by trying out activities offered by different craft workshops, such as glass blowing and candle making!

2. Nature trails

If you like the outdoors and beautiful nature, go on an exploration tour of the Troll Forest. Along the way you can pick blueberries, grill sausages at a rest stop and take a dip in the lake. The route is 5.5 kilometres long.

On the Öudden Fairytale Trail you will also see fairytale characters of all sorts. While you’re there, stop for a picnic lunch at Sommaröstrand’s cosy island café and admire the boats in the guest marina!

Also in Ramsholmen Park Forest you can walk along the paths and look for more than 20 species of birds and other forest animals, and almost 30 species of trees. There is a brochure about Ramsholmen Park Forest, which you can pick up at the Raaseborg’s Tourist Information Centre. The brochure contains a clear map of the nature trail and a comprehensive description of the flora and fauna of the area. Ramsholmen is also home to a swimming beach, where a dip will refresh the little ones.

In Fiskars, there is a 2 km long woodland trail for small nature lovers, as well as the slightly longer 4 km Rissla forest trail, which includes a waterfall and a shelter.

3. Play and skate parks

The Lion Park in Ekenäs is an absolute favourite! The Lion Park is located by the sea in Stallören Park, right in the heart of Ekenäs, within walking distance of the market square. The park has swings and climbing frames for children of all ages. The giant ant is the largest climbing frame in the park. Also try the new playground at the edge of Skepparträdgården!

If you’re heading to Fiskars, visit the play park next to the market. It’s dominated by an exciting adventure ship, where children of all ages can climb aboard. The skate parks in Karis, Pojo and Fiskars offer challenges for the slightly older kids. In Karis you can also try tricks in the parkour park.

4. The old water tower in Ekenäs

Climbing Ekenä’s old water tower is an adventure not to be missed on a trip to Ekenäs!  Climbing to the top of the tower is rewarded with stunning 360-degree views – even if you don’t suffer from vertigo, you can feel the tiny butterflies in the pit of your stomach. You can pick up the key at the Raseborg’sTourist Information Centre in the Raseborg Museum, at Gustav Wasas gata 11.

5. Beaches and swimming pool

Raseborg is a paradise for water lovers with its numerous sandy and rocky beaches

With a bit of luck, the whole beach is yours. A summer beach day will be remembered for the rest of the winter. Remember to pack your juice and sandwiches in your picnic basket! You can also play beach volleyball on Knipan beach in Ekenäs. The beach at Dagmar Park, just a short distance from Ekenäs towards Hangö, is also a great option, with fresh water available from the Dagmar fountain that bubbles right next door. Padva beach further away in Bromarf is also an absolute must-see: the water is amazingly clear, and the shallow, slowly deepening beach is among the most child-friendly in Raseborg. You can also paddle in the water in autumn, winter and spring at the Ekenäs swimming pool.

On most sandy beaches you will find a changing room, an outdoor toilet, a pier and a lifebuoy.

Bonus tip for rainy days

On a rainy day, head to the bowling alley for a game of bowling or to the library for a world of books and comics. At the end of the day, you can go to the cinema in Karis or the retro cinema in Ekenäs.
