In Karis you fall in love with the rich nature, the architecture and the verdure nature trails. Here is plenty to do for both adults, youngsters and kids.

Karis is known as a traffic center because most of the people who visit Raseborg arrives in Karis. The connections from Karis to the rest of the villages in Raseborg are good. It takes approximately one hour to travel from Helsinki or Turku. Karis is the second biggest suburb in Raseborg. 

History and sights

The green and wonderful park Pumpviken is one of the most important sights in Karis. It’s very popular to runners in the centre of the city. In the middle of the lake in Pumpviken you’ll find a small island, this is a perfect place to have a picnic. In Karis they are very proud of their chruch,St. Cathrine’s Chruch, that descend from the Middle Ages. The church is builded 1470 and is situated in Prästgården next to the lake Kyrkån. Here you can acquaint with the history from the Middle Ages. Eurydike is a nostalgic sculpture to many of the Karis citizens. The sculpture is located in front of the town hall and during the spring 2018 local entrepreneurs and volunteers of Karis repaired and restored it. The Läppträsket is a great place for those who are interested in nature and birds.

The stylish “funkis” houses planned by architect Eklund also belong to the tourist attractions. It’s possible to get to know more about the buildings by booking a guided tour. The history of Karis goes way back in time, the ruins of Junkarsborg and Läppträsket tell us about the old settlement in Karis. 


With time Karis has developed a wide supply of cultural events. All year around you can take part of different form of arts at the Galleri Fokus. The theatre “Tryckeriteatern” offers both local and national perfomances with music, dance and theatre. Next door you’ll find Luckan Raseborg, they sell tickets to all events in Raseborg. 

Every year the Karis night is arranged aswell as the exciting Ank Race in the lake in Pumpviken. 

Except for these events, Karis also offer a rich food culture. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee at the local favourite Art Cafe Serendipity, try a Raseburger at Restaurant KW or taste authentic local food at the restaurant Köttkontrollen.


The adrenalin hunters also find program in Karis. Children can use their energy at the Skate park or Parkour park in the summer and visit the ice rink in the winter. You can swim in the swamp Svedjaträsket or try  Disc golfing anywhere near the Pumpviken. Just outside the city you can ride Islandic horses at the horse stable Solfari stable.
