Ekenäs – from a small fishing village to a picturesque town-

The street names in Ekenäs tell about village life in the past and how the townspeople got their livelihoods. The streets have been in the same place since the 16th century. Hattmakaregatan (Hatmaker Street), Linvävaregatan (Linnen weaver Street), Handskmakaregatan (Glovemaker Street), Garvaregatan (Tanner Street) and Smedsgatan (Blacksmith Street) tell us that Ekenäs was inhabited by skilled craftsmen.

Helene Schjerfbeck-

Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) is one of the most important and respected artists in Finland and the entire Nordic region. During her life, she produced an extensive oeuvre including oil paintings, watercolours, drawings, lithographs and textile designs. Ekenäs, the town loved by Helene, served as a source of inspiration for the artist. Come follow the footsteps of the world-famous artist!
