Design and handicrafts
Age-old traditions and internationally-known modern design mix well in Raseborg. Street names in the old part of Ekenäs remind one of the artisans who used to live there, whereas the present-day artists live and work in Fiskars, an important forum of arts, crafts and design. In Fiskars you can visit the workshops, have a go at glass-blowing or taste the first-class hand made chocolates. Handicrafts and design are also important elements in Billnäs, where you can find information about the history of building from the Building Apothecary (Rakennusapteekki). From there you can also buy old tapestries, ceiling rosettes made from gypsum or other interesting things from grandma's time.
In Raseborg we also sew UNICEF dolls, which have become a popular gift for children and adults alike, while giving the deprived children of the world a chance for a better life. The dolls can be found in several places around Raseborg, for example in the tourist office.
Handicrafts and design are also on sale in Kungsgatan in Ekenäs. Opened in 1966, the was the first pedestrian shopping street in Finland.
